A day in the life of an Executive MBA

6:45 - 8:00

Leap out of bed, shower, dress down in preparation for one of those “non corporate” days. Breakfast with some of the Modular group; chat about last night’s accountancy assignment. Checked my e-mail.

8:00 - 8:45

Learning Team meeting. Go through Accounts assignment, check we have everything prepared for the other subjects. Quickly print out case reports to give to everyone in team.

8:45 - 10:00

John Fielding quick to pick on the one student looking unprepared to help him through his “Midland Sweets” case study – wasn’t me this time, but then it never is when I am prepared! Discussion ensued about the merits of marginal costing.

10:00 - 10:15

Break for a quick coffee; check pigeonhole for mail and email. You learn to be quick!

10:15 - 11:30

Back to class for Séan Rickard's economics lecture – fast paced, dynamic and exhausting delivery. Surely there can’t be that many formulae related to Vertical Integration?

11:30 - 11:45

More coffee, check pigeonhole, write up QOIT based on this mornings team session, email.

11:45 - 13:00

Simon Knox (marketing) entertains us with a discussion and case study related to Branding. Some excellent videos used to demonstrate the impact of different techniques.

13:00 - 14:15

Lunch - time to grab a sandwich over at Mitchell Hall, have a chat with my learning team and make plans for the evening. Visit to the shop for some energy supplements (sweets) for the afternoon session.

14:15 - 15:30

Second marketing session with Lynette Ryals on the subject of Customer Relationship Management. Fascinating discussion on a topic that I felt really comfortable with.

15:30 - 15:45

More coffee and finish off the QOIT write up. Check Voice Mail (work).

15:45 -17:00

Set up for 2 sessions of Organisational Behaviour. Discussed a case study with Joe Jaina on “The Lifestyle Corporation” – alias Wedgewood related to Change Management. Two of the directors from Wedgewood were joining the second session to show a video and answer questions.

17:00 - 18:30

Really enlightening discussion on change management the Wedgewood way – what they did right and what they did wrong. Really interesting stuff!

18:30 - 20:00

Drop off bags at CMDC, phone home, send countless kisses to daughter. Tea at the Social Club, game of pool and half a pint of Guinness.

20:00 - 21:00

Run through Marketing Success Story with learning team in lecture theatre a few times, refining dialogue and content. Time presentation and rework.

21:00 - 22:30

Back to my room, swap notes for tomorrow into student file; go through economics e-learning materials for next day.

22:30 - 23:30

Meet Vlad in CMDC Bar for a pint and a chat before bed.

23:30

Bath & Bed – night reading is Politics, Power and Influence – Yawn….
